Significance of Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is commonly used to treat mild to moderate acne. For severe acne it is used in addition to medications. In its more concentrated form benzoyl peroxide is a bleaching agent used to whiten teeth or dye hair. But medical studies have shown that a reduced concentration of 2.5% to 10% can turn benzoyl peroxide into a safe shedding agent to treat acne by increasing skin turnover, clearing pores of oil and dead skin cells and reducing or killing bacteria, specifically Propionibacterium acnes.

At MD Beauty Secrets we provide a Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Wash and a Benzoyl Peroxide 5% Gel. The 10% wash thoroughly cleanses acne-prone skin with a special soap-free cleanser and is fortified with benzoyl peroxide for anti-bacterial protection. The 5% gel is a perfect spot treatment utilizing the antibacterial properties of benzoyl peroxide.
