Top 3 Foods for Healthy Skin

Not many people realize that our skin is the biggest organ we have, which is why it extremely important that we properly care for it; and the easiest way to do that is by eating. We don’t have to spend all of our hard earned money on the latest creams and treatments that promise us younger looking skin. It’s as easy knowing which types of foods to eat in order to achieve that healthy glow that we long for.     • Flax and Flaxseed Oil – Flax has been shown to be loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, also known as ALA. This particular acid is plant-based and full of beneficial omega-3 fat which is a key element in keeping your skin moist and supple. If you do not take in the recommended amount of ALA each day, you may begin to develop dermatitis which presents as red, itchy patches on your skin. One of the easiest ways in which you can incorporate Flaxseed oil into your diet is to use it as an alternative to olive oil when making your own salad dressings. You may also find it beneficial to alternate flaxseed oil and olive oil, because both have been shown to be beneficial in caring for your skin.
  • Red Bell Peppers and Carrots – If you are looking for vegetables that rich in Vitamin C, you couldn’t do any better than red bell peppers and carrots. Vitamin C has been shown to aid in the production of collagen which helps keep your skin firm while protecting your skin from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals have been proven to cause premature wrinkles, to help keep these at bay, you should increase the amount of Vitamin C that you take in each day. In addition to red bell peppers and carrots, you may also want to increase the amount of tomatoes that you eat. Tomatoes have been shown to be an excellent source of vitamins which can also aid in the production of collagen, provide needed hydration to your skin and strengthen your skin cells.
  • Lean Beef or Poultry – Studies have shown that women who have more wrinkles than others their same age do not follow a protein rich diet. Additional studies have shown that women who eat less protein are also more prone to skin cracking, tearing and breaking. In order to avoid this, you should try to eat more protein rich foods, such as, eggs, lean beef, poultry, and edamame beans. By eating more of these types of foods, you will begin to notice that your skin is becoming more supple.

By increasing the amount each of these three items in your diet, you will begin to notice that your skin appears healthier and is more supple than it was prior to adding these foods to your diet. Adding just one of the foods that we have listed above to your diet can reduce the appearance of wrinkles by 10 percent and the thinning of the skin by 25 percent.
