Climate and Skin

We are a little over 2 weeks into the summer and the weather has changed dramatically, reaching scorching levels. Whether you live in a humid or arid climate, both climates generate their own set of beauty-based anxieties. It is important to take care of your skin during all seasons and to be aware of how your skin changes according to climate, and seasons and what it needs in response to such changes.

Desert Heat

In dry and hot climates, the air dehydrates your skin, removing most if not all of the moisture from your skin. As a result, your skin will feel and look rough, irritated and dull. When your skin reaches such a level it is imperative to repair your skin because it becomes more susceptible to the climate’s intensity.

MD Beauty Secrets’ Response

A good moisturizer will be your savior. Since dry weather is stripping your skin of vital moisture your only means of repair will be to keep your skin hydrated.

For normal skin we recommend using a gentle and mild cleanser such as our Gly/Sal 2-2 Cleanser followed by our Glycolic Facial Toner, which has cooling and calming agents like witch hazel and chamomile. We do not recommend using the toner frequently as it can rid your skin of necessary lipids. Moisturize, repair and nourish your skin with our Cell Repair Therapy and Triple Antioxidant Cream. As dry skin can lead to premature aging the Cell Repair Therapy will not only hydrate your skin but it also contains enzymes to aid in repairing mature skin while antioxidants neutralize free radicals, preventing premature aging. The Tripe Antioxidant Cream is a moistening serum that contains red wine antioxidants and enough green tea extract to equal 500 cups of tea to diminish the appearance in fine lines, wrinkles and pores while calming inflammation the skin.

The sun’s rays can be exceedingly harmful to your skin. Accordingly, we recommend that you always use a 30 or higher SPF sunscreen. At MD Beauty Secrets we offer a variety of sunscreens ranging fro 30 to 50 SPF. All of our sunscreens are oil-free and are full of beneficial minerals and vitamins.

We also offer an assortment of moisturizers depending on the dryness of your skin and the amount of moisture you will need. MD Beauty Secrets’ Fortified Moisturizer is a perfect product for individuals who require a heavier but smooth moisturizer.

Note: Arid weather can make your skin more sensitive. Anti-inflammatory ingredients such as chamomile, comfrey and green tea will do your skin wonders.

Tropical Heat

In humid and hot climates, your skin perspires more rapidly and the sweat just sits on your skin instead of evaporating. Consequently, the sweat melds with the natural oils your body produces (known as sebum) and other bacteria creating a shiny and greasy surface, and making you more prone to breakouts.

MD Beauty Secrets’ Response

Regardless if your skin is oily, dry or normal you will need a good cleanser as the constant sweating in humid climates make you more prone to breakouts.  You will need to keep your skin clean and control the oil of your skin. MD Beauty Secrets offers a variety of cleansers that range in strength.  We offer mild and gentle cleansers, for instance Gly/Sal 2-2 Cleanser or Gly/Sal 5-2 Cleanser, as well as cleansers for acne-prone patients, such as Benzoyl Peroxide 10% Wash. Remember, you are not to over wash your face, as over washing can cause irritation and create additional skin issues.

A good toner, like our Glycolic Facial Toner, will help control the oil and keep your skin clean as well. Do not forget to apply the toner on your oiliest stops, especially the t-zone (forehead, nose and chin). In addition to or in substitute of the toner you can use one of our cleansing pads Gly/ Sal 2-2 Pads or Gly/ Sal 5-2 Pads, which will also help with breakouts.

You can avoid using a moisturizer during the day as your skin produces more oil in humid climates than usual. However, when you do go out you will need to use sunscreen, as it will protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Plus, when you use peeling products such as salicylic and/or glycolic acids, your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight. As mentioned above, our sunscreens are oil-free, making it great for humid climates as well as individuals who are prone to breakouts or who have acne.
