Controlling Oily Skin

Our skin naturally produces oil that keeps our skin lubricated and healthy. However, like most things, too much of something can have unfavorable results. Accordingly, excess oil can lead to acne as well as blemishes. Luckily, MD Beauty Secrets has the right skin care regimen to manage your oily skin.

#1- Start off with a good cleanser

Every skin expert will agree that the most effective way to control oily skin is to wash your face twice a day and to stay away from soaps. You will need to incorporate a gentle cleanser into your daily skin care routine. Cleansers that do an excellent job at reducing oil contain benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid and/or salicylic acid. MD Beauty Secrets offers a glycolic and salicylic acid cleanser in different levels of strength to accommodate the oiliness of your skin: Gly / Sal 2-2 Cleanser and Gly/Sal 5-2 Cleanser. For very oily skin we also have a benzoyl peroxide cleanser that will help decrease the excess oil.

#2- Find the best toner for you

When it comes to toners, skin experts give different advice as to its necessity and benefits. Nevertheless, toners clear your skin of excess remnants and have exfoliating properties. When applying toner, the best areas to treat fall within the T–Zone area (forehead, nose and chin) as that is where most of the excess oil is produced. #3 Adding medicated pads to your daily skin care routine

Another skin care option for treating oily skin is medicated pads. Oil-reducing ingredients such as glycolic acid and salicylic acid can be applied to your skin with pads. This is a great addition to your cleanser. MD Beauty Secrets carries Gly/ Sal 2-2 Pads and Gly/ Sal 5-2 Pads to address your oily skin problems.

#4 Use a mask on a weekly basis

A facial mask will clean and clear out pores. Therefore, if your skin is oily and you want to draw out the oil from your pores, a good mask will help achieve this objective. You don’t want to dry out your skin so do not over do it with masks. Once or twice a week will suffice. MD Beauty Secrets’ Clay Mint Mask will not only clear and revitalize your skin but it will leave you feeling refreshed.

#5 Moisturize!

People with oily skin usually avoid moisturizers like the plague. Nonetheless, even oily skin needs to be moisturized. Although, you may not need to moisturize as much as a person with dry skin, when you do moisturize use an oil-free moisturizer. For oily and combination skin, MD Beauty Secrets’ Ultra Lite Moisture Dew Cream would be an excellent choice.

#6 Do not forget to put on sunscreen

Again, many people with oily skin will stay away from sunscreen, as they mistakenly believe it will make their skin greasier. When using a protectant it will need to be oil-free as well. MD Beauty Secrets carries the best sunscreens. All sunscreens are oil-free, SPF 30 or higher and contain zinc oxide. For sunscreen options please click here.
